Teacher Training – Cert.Ed and PGCE

Interested in becoming a teacher?

With a Certificate in Education/PGCE from York College you will be qualified to teach outside of post-compulsory education, in a subject you have experience and expertise in, allowing you to share your knowledge with others. With the option to study either full-time or part-time, you can work alongside your studies, gaining valuable real-life experience while gaining a qualification.

The outcome of this qualification depends on the level of your prior learning and the subject you wish to teach. Award outcomes include:

  • Certificate in Education (Lifelong Learning)
  • Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (Lifelong Learning)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Lifelong Learning)

These courses are available on an in and pre-service basis, depending on whether you already have teaching hours as an employee or volunteer in the sector, or whether you intend to work in the sector and gain experience through a teaching practice placement.

It all started as a dream, a dream for a career switch, a dream that immediately sunk into an ocean of fear, a fear not to succeed. That was without knowing that PGCE at York College was all about 'Learning', not as a product of teaching, but rather as a product of the activity of learners. It’s all about being in the right place with the right people, where individual success is a collective goal, where tutors, mentors and peers are ever present and ready to make your dream come true.
