Studying Media Production, Film and TV or Journalism at University
We have been teaching Media Production at York St John University for more than 50 years.
As one of the longest established courses in the UK we can provide crucial insight into what it means to study for a degree in this subject and - if you do - what you might choose to do after graduation.
In our live session you will discover how you can expect to learn practically across a range of disciplines including film, TV, podcast, social media, web and print to produce brilliant content that real audiences will love to share and watch.
We will describe how you will work alongside industry professionals, such as through our partnership with Screen Yorkshire’s Connected Campus – enjoying access to set visits and taking part in masterclasses with leading professionals.
You will learn how the creative economy is booming in Yorkshire with the arrival of Channel Four to the region and the relocation of BBC jobs to northern cities.
We will also reveal how this will lead to a growth in jobs in film and TV as well as journalism and other creative roles and opportunities with the roll out of new technologies such as 5G.
When studying for a degree in Media Production you will also learn about the context and background to the practical work you do.
By developing your understanding of the media and sharpening your analytical and critical thinking you will also develop skills that are transferable to other graduate employment pathways such as teaching or further study.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we will explore how you can develop your own unique voice to use your new skills to tell stories that are important to you and other people – and which may even help change the world for the better.
